Kuhina Nui is an Hawaiian Historical Novel /Intelligent Fiction about
King Kamehameha's favorite wife, Ka'ahumanu. Ka'ahumanu was passionate,
beautiful, determined and could surf with the best. She seized power
after her husband's death and ruled as co-ruler and Queen Regent from
1819-1832. Ka'ahumanu came under the influence of Calvinist missionaries
and many of her decisions changed the nature of Hawaii forever. In this
novel Queen Ka'ahumanu is summoned by the major Hawaiian deities to
explain and justify her decisions to end the ancient, Hawaiian religion,
westernize and Christianize her people. To her credit she did not
alienate the land. That followed under King Kamehameha III.
