FREE -- US & UK Kindle Edition -- NINE ANGELS (SOFT TARGET SERIES) by Conrad Jones

Chapter 1
They’re coming

How would you start a book about evil? I’m used to telling stories but not like this one, not the truth. I write fiction but this story is real. They say that fact is stranger than fiction and it is correct. There is more evil in the real world than in any fictional one. Where shall I begin? At the beginning, I guess. The night it all began, the moon was shining and silver lined the clouds as they dashed across the night sky. Does it sound right or does it sound like a teenage horror book? Actually, it was a dark and stormy night and I could hear the sound of howling in the distance. It might be the ideal way to begin a horror story or a book about zombies but this is not fantasy.
As I write this book, the weather is bad right now, the news is full of flash floods, and chaos as the country grinds to a halt. You know what I mean when that happens. No rain for a week and we have a drought, hosepipe bans and advice on how to save water, right? Three inches of snow and the roads are blocked and everyone blames the government for not having enough grit. Anyway, back to the story. The rain is hammering against the windows and jagged flashes of lightning are shooting across the sky illuminating the trees outside. It seems like the perfect time to start a book about evil and I really wish I was making it up but this is no fairytale or work of fiction. I have to pinch myself to see if I am awake because I wish it was all just a dream but it is not. It was real. It is real and although I have created many books, I could not have imagined this story. Beware readers for this is a shocking tale that will disturb you and make you question my grip on reality, and your own too. If you are expecting tales of vampires or werewolves, fur and fangs, then you will be disappointed. You will tell your friends that it cannot be real but as I listen to the wind gusting against the windows and the lightning flashes against the blackness of the sky, I can still hear their screams in my mind.

The series so far; Soft Target, Soft Target II 'Tank', Soft Target III 'Jerusalem', 18th Brigade, Blister, The Child Taker, Slow Burn, Nine Angels, (coming soon, The Gecko Murders)

FREE -- Kindle UK Edition ONLY -- Effie At The Wedding (The Effie Stories) by Tracy Marchini

Effie has a million reasons why she's not thrilled to be at her sister's wedding -- and the monstrously pink bridesmaid's dress isn't even on the list. When Effie finds herself locked in the bathroom, she thinks she might just stay there. After all, it's better than hearing from her mom about how often she's been to the buffet or how beautiful Ophelia looks in her wedding dress.

In this hysterical young adult short story, Effie will have to find a reason to celebrate... or get used to her porcelain throne.

Sample:

5 (Totally Selfish) Reasons I Do Not Want George As A Brother-In-Law

5.) My sister is only 20, and he is 29. That means he’s almost thirty, which means that when she’s forty, he’ll be almost fifty, and then when she’s fifty, he’ll be almost sixty. Too old.

4.) He just graduated med school. People never see their spouses when one is a doctor. And on Grey’s Anatomy, the doctors are always sleeping with the other doctors and nurses. Ophelia is cute, but she can’t compete with a tall, blonde-haired millionaire doctor. (Sorry, Ophelia.)

3.) He’s too nice. Nice is lame. Ophelia will be SO BORED when she’s like, 23 and realizes that her older, doctor boyfriend is too busy saving lives and golfing to go out clubbing.

2.) He’s too good looking. Again, the nurses are bound to fall in love with him.

1.) I will never be able to bring a boyfriend home without him also being a good-looking, well mannered doctor. Which means that I am going to be single for the rest of my life, while my sister and her husband make lots of good-looking doctor babies. I will have lots of cats.

This is a SHORT STORY about 6750 words long which would translate to about 30 printed pages.

Don't Ever Change is a stand alone short story.

High school was a time of fond memories for Lori. Twenty three years later, she's back in town for her mother's funeral. Not wanting to deal with family right away after a long drive, she roams around town, only to find herself in front of her old school.
On a whim, she decides to sneak through a hole in the fence and take a look around. The last thing she expected was to find a classmate from long ago. Even more shocking was the fact that he hadn't changed even a little bit; right down to the OP shirt and parachute pants.
When Adam explains that he's been going to school every year for the last twenty three years, it shocks Lori. He shows her the yearbook where she wrote "Don't Ever Change". Then he explains how it's her fault that he's still exactly the same as when they went to school together, right down to the acne and braces.

How would you feel about never being allowed to change? Perhaps you'll think a little bit harder the next time someone asks you to sign their yearbook.
