The Titanic was on fire before it hit the iceberg!
Shortly after the
Titanic sank on the morning of April 15, 1912, author Logan Marshall
compiled a history of the tragic event. His narrative reads like a
novel, yet every word is true. Bruce Caplan took the original work and
edited and abridged the book to include new information and today is a
much sought-after public speaker and consided a premier Titanic expert.
Myth: the ship was safest when it left port.
Reality:
the ship was on fire from the time it left Southampton. Not a tiny
blaze, but a roaring inferno that probably contributed to the disaster.
Myth: All the men patiently stood by and let the women and children enter the few lifeboats.
Reality: Men were shot on deck as they attempted to board the lifeboats and save their own lives.

FREE -- S & UK Kindle Edition -- How to Sleep Like a Baby, A Meditation on Psalm 3 by Bob Saffrin
The 21st century is the age of insomnia. The stresses of life have so
multiplied in these times that sleeplessness has become truly epidemic.
Check out the bookstore. There are hundreds of books to help you manage
the pressure of life and there is more than books. They have DVD’s
reproducing sounds of forests, oceans, birds and rainfall. They have
yoga and eastern mysticism, not to mention stress balls, stress beads,
and body rollers that you roll up-and-down your head and your back to
relieve stress! What does that tell us? I think it tells us that many
people in our society, and Christians are not exempt, find it hard to
cope with the anxieties of life. It’s no wonder we can’t sleep. None of
us are immune to stressful, anxious days and fretful days can lead to
sleepless nights. “How to Sleep Like a Baby” is a meditation on Psalm 3.
It is God’s prescription for those nights when your mind won’t stop
thinking about the struggles of the day.

FREE -- US & UK Kindle Edition -- The Church of Tango: A Memoir by Cherie Magnus
This is not a "tango book," but a story of survival that cuts across
death, cancer, Alzheimer's, loss of home and homeland and cherished
heirlooms and possessions, loss of shared histories, of hope for one's
children, of hope for the future, of love. But it's also about finding
love and unexpected joy. And about listening to the music and dancing.
I
started writing this story at the time it began--in February of 1992,
when I was so depressed after my husband's death I wanted to swallow all
of his left-over meds and follow him into the beyond. So what began in a
way as a journal or diary became the chronicle of my road to survival
in four countries. And once I made that decision to live no matter what
tragedy came my way, I plugged on, through one tremendous loss after
another, by dancing. No, not yet had the tango found me, but whatever
dance there was at the time came to my rescue. I had always been a
dancer, and now I knew dance could save me from despair.
As my
adventures unfolded, the manuscript grew and grew. I had to make cuts in
events, characters, reflections and realizations. That was the hardest
part of bringing this story to fruition. There is so much left out. Who
knows, maybe I'll write The Daughter of the Church of Tango, or a
prequel one day.
Our tango students come from all over the world:
China, The Philippines, Australia, Viet Nam, New Zealand, Hawaii, South
Africa, India, Nepal, Finland, Russia, Israel, Scandinavia, all over
Europe, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada and the U.S.
And one question they all ask me is, how did I end up teaching tango in
Argentina?
This book is my answer.
The Church of Tango is a passionate memoir of tragedy and adventure, lust and music, romance and tango--and above all, survival.

Don't let the title throw you off - this is a hilarious book with an anti-bully theme.
When
Farts Had Colors is the story of 4th grader Lance Chance who hates
Mondays. This particular Monday Lance's mom coaxes Lance to school with
his favorite sandwiches and a 'wish-kiss'. On his way to school Lance is
tormented by "the biggest, meanest 4th grader ever to stalk the halls
of Alfonso Orr Elementary School. Merry Maddox. Bully Extraordinaire…”A
legend" and her posse of mayhem, the Crazy M&Ms. If having to hand
over his sandwiches and perform a certain humiliating act wasn't enough,
Lance gets blamed by Merry Maddox for letting out a fart so horrible it
forces the entire school to evacuate. Lance runs away from school and
wishes that farts had colors. "Then everyone would have known it was
Merry Maddox who sent out those heat seeking missiles of doom and
destruction," thinks Lance. And just like that, Lance's wish comes true.
Will Lance come up with a plan to expose Merry Maddox and reveal her
true colors?

FREE -- US & UK Kindle Edition -- Spiggot: A Depraved Comedy by Craig Saunders
Spiggot, the consummate misanthrope copper, walks a fine line between
lovable anti-hero and despicable bigot with very large shoes. His one
redeeming feature is his beautiful partner, the seductively-named
Francesca Trout. She keeps her one good eye on the job, and her slightly
gammy, less attractive other eye on her partner.
Spiggot is
catapulted into his second worst nightmare when, on a stakeout to catch
criminal mastermind, his soul is sent by means of an ancient artifact
into a mad axe murderer’s body, who is held captive in a maximum
security residential hospital for the criminally insane...
Sheez, you couldn't make it up.
His
only hope of redemption is to rely on his partner to help catch the
villain. The trouble is he’s in a nutcase’s body, Trout didn’t like him
in the first place, he’s got an insane copper after him and he’s afraid
of pirates…
We can only hope this doesn’t all end on a boat…

While reading “The Help”, I was surprised by the role that food played in the book.
My
family comes from the south and has many of the recipes mentioned in
the book in our family cookbook, so after asking my relatives, I have
gotten permission to share many of the recipes with you. Some of these
recipes are hundreds of years old. I hope that you enjoy the recipes
when you gather together on many future occasions with your families. ~Sarah Sue Marshall
