North Slope is a barren desert of ice in Alaska that stretches from the
Brooks Mountains to the Beaufort Sea, frozen during the winter clear to
the North Pole. It is in this wilderness that the Fyffe Oil Company
struggles in its search for oil. Andrew Fyffe, owner of the company,
finds time and money are running out. On the rig a man has been killed;
suspicion and fear are rampant among the drilling crews as they continue
their superhuman efforts before Fyffe goes bust. The one man who (Fyffe
believes) can save the company is McKinnon, once a famous wildcat oil
man, but now a drunk, a drop-out. Fyffe kidnaps McKinnon from a drinking
spree and flies him up to the oil rig, Fyffe One. When McKinnon sobers
up he quickly sees he will need all his old resourcefulness, skill and
courage to save the rig from catastrophe. The violent action of this
story takes place against the background, strongly conveyed, of Alaskan
Arctic winter and night. The rig and its crew confront dangers from
temperatures far below zero, from fire, and from a subtle and complex
intrigue ruthlessly executed by men whose objectives do not include the
welfare of Fyffe One. This first novel tells a powerful story with
conviction, a story to spellbind the reader and a mystery to be solved.

In
the near future, a young man seeks adventure in the French Alps. Lost,
feverish and caught in a freak snowstorm, he finds refuge in a lonely
mountain farm where he stumbles upon a young girl’s diary from eighty
years before. Claudette tells of farm life disrupted by a blizzard and
the arrival of a stranger with a terrible injury. With her father sick,
the eight-year-old chronicles her struggle to look after the farm, and
its unwanted guest, alone.
In present day London, Joseph Martin
has screwed up. Once he was a lethal assassin, the best gun-for-hire.
Now, in his autumn years, even he has to admit he is losing it. His
failing skills have landed him in trouble with a dangerous client. Only
the successful completion of an eerily familiar mission can save his
skin; a mission which takes him into deepest Asia, where he must face a
past he has long tried to forget.
He’s not the only one on the
road in Asia. London city boy Ashley Gritten is traveling. Shedding the
challenges of his privileged life in Kensington, he’s off to ‘find
himself’ in the drugs, girls and debauchery of the backpacker trail. But
something else finds him. Something much, much worse.
Who would
have thought that a rich kid and an aging hit man would have so much in
common? And what does all of this have to do with Elmo, a pianist on
his death bed in Venice?
From The Storm is a dark and humorous story of how selves are lost and lives are found.

Fox makes a living teaching self-defence to women in a quiet northern
English city. It makes best use of the deadly skills she picked up after
being kicked out of army Special Forces training for reasons she
prefers not to go into. So, when Susie Hollins is found dead hours after

Charlie finds herself drawn
closer to the crime when the New Adelphi’s enigmatic owner, Marc Quinn,
offers her a job working security at the club. Viewed as an outsider by
the existing all-male team, her suspicion that there’s a link between
the club and a serial killer doesn’t exactly endear her to anyone.
Charlie has always taught her students that it’s better to run than to
stand and fight, But, when the killer starts taking a very personal
interest, it’s clear he isn’t going to give her that option . . .

REVIEW:
Second
in the Underground Guardians series, this is a well-crafted and
imaginative story. The wonderful hero struggles to find a balance
between his needs and the heroine's need to make her own choices.
Marcella is rather naive, but she's also intelligent and strong. The
ending leaves you longing to learn more about these warriors and the
world they try to defend.
RT BOOKCLUB 4.5 stars!
Dear Reader:
The
Underground Guardians was originally published through Ellora’s Cave
many years ago. As time passed, though readers asked for the next book
in the series, I knew that there were things I should have done
differently, that I wanted to do differently. More time passed, and this
series stuck with me. I WANTED to write more stories. So finally, I sat
down and said – how do I write more? How do I get from where I started
to where I want to go? There was only one option. A spinoff series. So I
wrote a new series -- THE ZODIUS series -- which debuts in May 2011
with Sourcebooks Casablanca with the book THE LEGEND OF MICHAEL. But
these books – The Underground Guardians – inspired the Zodius series.
Without them, the Zodius series would never have taken form. So here is a
look into the young writer’s vision into a world that later became the
more mature writer’s world. You will actually meet my inspiration for
the Zodius version of Michael (LEGEND OF MICHAEL) in this book. In fact,
there will be many things in the Zodius series that you will find
familiar to the Underground Guardians series, but you will also find
many things very different.
I hope this look into the world of
the Underground Guardians will intrigue you enough to make you want to
read the Zodius series, starting with LEGEND OF MICHAEL.
Thank you for your support!

Lanai has trained for years to take her place among the Guilders of the
Miilark Islands, but now the Trade House she is to serve is imperiled
by the absence of a legitimate Deskata heir. Scenting blood in the
water, rival Houses begin to circle. The desperate search for an exiled
heir takes Tilda across a war-torn continent and to the gates of the
Sable City, where centuries ago dark magic almost destroyed the world. Along
with a sinister sorceress, a broken-hearted samurai, and a miscreant
mercenary long on charm but lousy with a crossbow, Tilda must brave the
demon-infested ruins. Only then can she find John Deskata, who may not
want to be found at all.
(Only one thing worse than reading short
blurbs for long books, writing short blurbs for long books. ;-) The
above is very nuts and bolts: "Tilda must go here to do this," but of
course it is all a lot more complicated than that. I love the fantasy
genre and respect its classic elements. That said, this series is to
some extent about playing with what might be expected, and bringing some
humor, mystery, and a bit of flirty banter to what can easily turn only
too grim, when the stakes are so "fantastically" high. It isn't "Dark"
fantasy, but nor is it slapstick. It's basically a character piece
about Tilda Lanai, trying to hold down a job, help out her friends, and
survive the day-to-day. With a couple dragons thrown in, of course. -
