Chapter 1
They’re coming
How would you start a book about
evil? I’m used to telling stories but not like this one, not the truth. I
write fiction but this story is real. They say that fact is stranger
than fiction and it is correct. There is more evil in the real world
than in any fictional one. Where shall I begin? At the beginning, I
guess. The night it all began, the moon was shining and silver lined the
clouds as they dashed across the night sky. Does it sound right or does
it sound like a teenage horror book? Actually, it was a dark and stormy
night and I could hear the sound of howling in the distance. It might
be the ideal way to begin a horror story or a book about zombies but
this is not fantasy.
As I write this book, the weather is bad right
now, the news is full of flash floods, and chaos as the country grinds
to a halt. You know what I mean when that happens. No rain for a week
and we have a drought, hosepipe bans and advice on how to save water,
right? Three inches of snow and the roads are blocked and everyone
blames the government for not having enough grit. Anyway, back to the
story. The rain is hammering against the windows and jagged flashes of
lightning are shooting across the sky illuminating the trees outside. It
seems like the perfect time to start a book about evil and I really
wish I was making it up but this is no fairytale or work of fiction. I
have to pinch myself to see if I am awake because I wish it was all just
a dream but it is not. It was real. It is real and although I have
created many books, I could not have imagined this story. Beware readers
for this is a shocking tale that will disturb you and make you question
my grip on reality, and your own too. If you are expecting tales of
vampires or werewolves, fur and fangs, then you will be disappointed.
You will tell your friends that it cannot be real but as I listen to the
wind gusting against the windows and the lightning flashes against the
blackness of the sky, I can still hear their screams in my mind.
