Chapter 1
They’re coming
How would you start a book about
evil? I’m used to telling stories but not like this one, not the truth. I
write fiction but this story is real. They say that fact is stranger
than fiction and it is correct. There is more evil in the real world
than in any fictional one. Where shall I begin? At the beginning, I
guess. The night it all began, the moon was shining and silver lined the
clouds as they dashed across the night sky. Does it sound right or does
it sound like a teenage horror book? Actually, it was a dark and stormy
night and I could hear the sound of howling in the distance. It might
be the ideal way to begin a horror story or a book about zombies but
this is not fantasy.
As I write this book, the weather is bad right
now, the news is full of flash floods, and chaos as the country grinds
to a halt. You know what I mean when that happens. No rain for a week
and we have a drought, hosepipe bans and advice on how to save water,
right? Three inches of snow and the roads are blocked and everyone
blames the government for not having enough grit. Anyway, back to the
story. The rain is hammering against the windows and jagged flashes of
lightning are shooting across the sky illuminating the trees outside. It
seems like the perfect time to start a book about evil and I really
wish I was making it up but this is no fairytale or work of fiction. I
have to pinch myself to see if I am awake because I wish it was all just
a dream but it is not. It was real. It is real and although I have
created many books, I could not have imagined this story. Beware readers
for this is a shocking tale that will disturb you and make you question
my grip on reality, and your own too. If you are expecting tales of
vampires or werewolves, fur and fangs, then you will be disappointed.
You will tell your friends that it cannot be real but as I listen to the
wind gusting against the windows and the lightning flashes against the
blackness of the sky, I can still hear their screams in my mind.

Medical

self-esteem; it is also an unhealthy condition.
If you have

it is very difficult to try to spot reduce this area, and even
increasing your level of exercise while reducing your calorie intake
seems to have little effect on the stubborn fat deposits that settle in
your abdomen.

Sample:
5 (Totally Selfish) Reasons I Do Not Want George As A Brother-In-Law
5.)
My sister is only 20, and he is 29. That means he’s almost thirty,
which means that when she’s forty, he’ll be almost fifty, and then when
she’s fifty, he’ll be almost sixty. Too old.
4.) He just
graduated med school. People never see their spouses when one is a
doctor. And on Grey’s Anatomy, the doctors are always sleeping with the
other doctors and nurses. Ophelia is cute, but she can’t compete with a
tall, blonde-haired millionaire doctor. (Sorry, Ophelia.)
3.)
He’s too nice. Nice is lame. Ophelia will be SO BORED when she’s like,
23 and realizes that her older, doctor boyfriend is too busy saving
lives and golfing to go out clubbing.
2.) He’s too good looking. Again, the nurses are bound to fall in love with him.
1.)
I will never be able to bring a boyfriend home without him also being a
good-looking, well mannered doctor. Which means that I am going to be
single for the rest of my life, while my sister and her husband make
lots of good-looking doctor babies. I will have lots of cats.

This is a SHORT STORY about 6750 words long which would translate to about 30 printed pages.
Don't Ever Change is a stand alone short story.
High
school was a time of fond memories for Lori. Twenty three years later,
she's back in town for her mother's funeral. Not wanting to deal with
family right away after a long drive, she roams around town, only to
find herself in front of her old school.
On a whim, she decides to
sneak through a hole in the fence and take a look around. The last thing
she expected was to find a classmate from long ago. Even more shocking
was the fact that he hadn't changed even a little bit; right down to the
OP shirt and parachute pants.
When Adam explains that he's been
going to school every year for the last twenty three years, it shocks
Lori. He shows her the yearbook where she wrote "Don't Ever Change".
Then he explains how it's her fault that he's still exactly the same as
when they went to school together, right down to the acne and braces.
How
would you feel about never being allowed to change? Perhaps you'll
think a little bit harder the next time someone asks you to sign their
yearbook.

FREE -- US & UK Kindle Edition -- Don't Lean out of the Window!: A European Misadventure by Stewart Ferris & Paul Bassett
This amusing travelogue describes the adventures of three intrepid
inter-railers who endure water cannons, arrests, undesirables and each
other during a hot, sticky month that left most of the continent dazed,
confused and smelling of "inter-rail feet".
Be prepared to come
off the moral high ground as you follow three 'up-for-it' young men
across Europe. I defy anyone who does not find themselves chuckling at
Bassett and Ferris' sardonic and cheeky wit...In 'Don't Lean Out of the
Window', culture is left behind while anything , or anyone, foreign, is
at the mercy of these guys' satire.
Both men and women will
revel in this read - men because of the hilarious (and it really is)
schoolboy humour, and women, because they will be quietly amused at the
(mainly futile) efforts of these boys in attracting the opposite sex.
Anyone who has been inter-railing on a tight budget will relish this
book - but the experience is by no means a prerequisite.

FREE -- US & UK Kindle Edition -- The Last Waltz - New Edition by G. G. Vandagriff
It is December of 1913 in Vienna and Amalia Faulhaber is surrounded by
the whirlwind that is the life of a nineteen-year-old socialite. She is
comfortable and confident in her wealth, her heritage, and most of all,
in her engagement to the Prussian baron, Eberhard von Waldburg. All this
comes crashing to a halt the day that her fiance informs her that their
engagement is off since he is returning to Prussia to fight in what he
is sure will be a glorious war.
Thus begins the tale of a heroine
of extraordinary background and resource who develops into a woman who
would be extraordinary in any age.
The men in her life—a German
officer in World War I, a patriotic Polish doctor, and an Austrian
Baron, all shape her, but more remarkably she shapes them. Her utopian
socialist uncle has raised her with ideas outside those of the upper
classes, imparting to her a more complete picture of the day than
possessed by the other men in her life. This quality causes her to
champion the Austrian Democratic Experiment and to especially mourn its
demise.
The Last Waltz is full of little known history of a land
that was, in 1913, the apex of the worlds of science, medicine, art, and
music. The speed with which the five-hundred year old empire fell, and
the reasons behind that failure carry many warnings for the world we
live in today.

“Some
say the world will end in fire, some say in ice.” Thus Robert Frost
warns the President of the Shadow at the beginning of Atlantis Gate,
before departing on a classified mission on the first nuclear submarine,
the USS Nautilus.
A war beyond time. An enemy beyond space. A
thriller beyond your wildest dreams. Three areas on the Earth’s surface
defy explanation: the Bermuda Triangle, the Devil’s Sea of Japan, and a
small region of Cambodia. Inside these realms, planes have disappeared,
ships have vanished, and, in Cambodia, an entire civilization has been
lost leaving behind Angkor Wat.
In 480 BC, King Leonidas leads
300 Spartans to Thermopylae to try to delay the massive Persian Army.
Known only to the King, they have an even more important mission: to

she can travel to help save the world. It’s a mission for which
Leonidas will gladly sacrifice his own, and his men’s lives.
On

defense.
And in doing so, he must travel to the Space Between, the boundary between our world, and the world of the Shadow.

FREE -- US & UK Kindle Edition -- One Day as a Tiger by Alan Taylor Alan Taylor
This is a book that has everything. History, romance, mystery and a
sense of being in India during the end of the British Raj. Most of all
it is highly imaginative and extremely colourful. The descriptions of
places, of food, of customs and events is compelling. Spoilt and
inebriated Maharajas, snake charmers and mystic sadhus all add to the
appeal of an exceptional saga.
The introduction of an immoral
secret service agent and a god who is learning to be a deity - into the
cast of characters - is fascinating. No matter how much you liked all
the other books about India in the last few decades, I guarantee this
one will not disappoint.

FREE -- US & UK Kindle Edition -- The List by C. D. Baker
When the British arrive in Philadelphia in September of 1777, General
Washington is confused. The maneuver was unexpected. As history would
later reveal, an influential Philadelphia loyalist had promoted an
idea...an idea involving a secret list of men who might secure the final
defeat of the patriots.
Was this list the reason for the British
seizure of the city? What of the mystery of its surprise disappearance?
And what of the conflict the Browne family endured as a divided family
in a divided city?
'The List' is a well-researched historical
fiction based on one of the great mysteries of the American Revolution.
An entertaining, enlightening read for all ages, Baker's novel tells the
untold story that changed the course of history.
