During World War Two, an airplane crashes over Russia. The Russians save
the pilot who is given a life behind the Iron Curtain as part of a
unique corps of scientists.. He grows to old age and passes a medallion,
a geometric star of David on a gold chain, to his grandson Pav.

the Customs Agent expected to see farmland as he drove to get out of
the crowded city. Instead the farms had been sold and small tracts of
land were under construction. An American architect created thousands of
small homes for first time veterans coming home to the U.S. from the
War to wives and expecting their third child. Many hopes and dreams were
created overnight as block after block of nearly identical but
inexpensive houses, with ample yards for swings and trees and picnic
tables, created a new concept in living for former apartment dwellers in
city life. The American Dream was suddenly in reach for everyone and it
was 1968.That was then.....Topaz had arrived and now it is 1975.
